Square One Law hosts Temerko dinner

Some of the North East’s most high-profile business leaders have been given a unique insight into the international energy market.

Square One Law hosted a dinner for key figures in the region’s vibrant energy sector, where the special guest was prominent Russian businessman Alexander Temerko, a major shareholder, director and Deputy Chairman of the North East based OGN Group.

Mr Temerko was also a Minister in Boris Yeltsin’s Russian Government and a senior executive in the world’s largest oil business – the Russian firm Yukos.

He told guests at the dinner how, as an early critic of President Putin, he had sought refuge in the UK from a politically inspired prosecution in Russia following Yukos’ collapse. Mr Temerko, who was granted British citizenship in 2011, also told about his business experiences at OGN and his long-standing support for the Conservative Party.

Square One Law Senior Partner Ian Gilthorpe said: “Alexander is a man of great influence in the energy sector with many years of experiences to draw on.

“We were very pleased to be able to host this event and to be able to attract such a knowledgeable audience for Alexander to talk to.

“Our guests are among the most passionate energy-sector champions in this region, but there is always more to learn about this industry and Alexander was able to add to our experience and increase our knowledge of the issues we face.

“It was certainly an informative and entertaining evening.”
