Square One Law and NRG are hosting a seminar to discuss recent developments and update HR professionals on the forthcoming changes to employment law. The session will cover dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace, employee performance management and protected conversations.
Speakers
Simon Loy, partner in the employment team will provide a roundup of the most recent significant legal developments including the latest instalments in the never-ending sagas on employee status involving Uber and Deliveroo and on Holiday Pay, as well as taking a look at other anticipated key changes in 2018.
The continuing media reports of sexual harassment within the celebrity and political spheres has shone a light on harassment in the workplace generally. Roisin Patton, partner within the employment team will discuss the key stages for HR professionals in dealing with this sensitive issue referencing relevant recent decisions and statutory guidance.
Eleanor Wilkinson, senior associate in the employment team will discuss and provide practical advice on the management of employee performance issues in the workplace. Eleanor will cover common queries that arise, such as how to manage complaints from third parties, how to handle employees whose performance deteriorates after improvement and whether a single performance issue can ever justify dismissal.
With employers increasingly conducting protected conversations with employees rather than going through the motions of a formal dismissal process, Rebecca Fielding, senior associate, in the employment team will provide insight into the practicalities and pitfalls of ‘protected conversations.’ Rebecca will explore when and when not to use them as well as how best to approach these discussions to achieve an amicable resolution. Rebecca will also look at the upcoming changes to the tax treatment of notice payments and the potential impact on future settlement negotiations.
