Square One Law and NRG are hosting a seminar to discuss recent developments and update HR professionals on the forthcoming changes to employment law in 2018. The session will include an update on business compliance post-GDPR and whistleblowing. UNW LLP will also provide an update on the new tax rules for termination payments.

Roisin Patton, partner in the employment team will discuss the landscape for businesses post-GDPR which will include a summary of what is expected in terms of compliance at this stage together with the most recent updates from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). This session will provide practical guidance on GDPR issues for HR that will apply whether you are on track with demonstrating compliance or if you are yet to implement changes.

Lee Muter, employment tax partner at UNW LLP will discuss the new tax rules which apply for termination payments from April 2018. In particular he will assess the tax and NIC risks involved for employers in getting things wrong, and how to approach the new tax legislation when terminating an employee’s contract.

Jean-Pierre van Zyl, head of the employment team, will focus on the troublesome area of whistleblowing. Whilst whistleblowing can lift the lid on unlawful practices, credible and unfounded allegations can be damaging and time consuming to handle, with both scenarios having the possibility of becoming extremely contentious if not managed correctly. JP will offer advice to ensure public interest disclosures are identified and practical tips on managing whistleblowers in the workplace.

Simon Loy, partner in the employment team will update you on the latest significant changes in employment law and provide you with the key workplace developments anticipated for the remainder of 2018. This will include important developments on when a notice of dismissal takes effect, contractual variation, shared parental leave, knowledge of disability, Employment Tribunal awards and the progress of the Uber litigation.
