Sea Cadets secure permanent base with support from Square One Law

ONE of the country’s most active Sea Cadets groups has secured the long-term future of its base thanks to a charitable donation.

Hartlepool Sea Cadets had leased its headquarters at the town’s Marina since the purpose-built facility opened in 2000. But a £100,000 donation from the charity, Hartlepool Youth, has ensured the Sea Cadets will have a permanent, independent base for decades to come.

Paul Harrison, Treasurer of Hartlepool Sea Cadets, said: “This is a fantastic location for the Sea Cadets and we could not have it any better being so close to the Marina and all the facilities we have here.

“With Hartlepool being such a proud maritime town, we have a very active Sea Cadets and securing ownership of our headquarters means that we can look forward to a very active future. We are extremely grateful to Hartlepool Youth for providing such a sizeable donation.”

Jeanette Henderson, Chairman of Hartlepool Youth, said: “The Sea Cadets is such a fantastic organisation and very active here in Hartlepool with more than 50 members and volunteers.

“As well as taking part in a range of on-shore and offshore skills including sailing and power-boating, many of the cadets achieve qualifications in the likes of Public Services and some even go on to pursue rewarding careers within the services.

“At Hartlepool Youth, we are all about helping young people achieve their potential via leisure and sports and we were happy to assist the Sea Cadets in securing their base so it can be enjoyed for many years to come.”

The Sea Cadets and Hartlepool Youth were assisted in the property deal by commercial law firm, Square One Law.

Senior Associate in the property team, Satpal Pandal said: “It was a privilege to advise on this deal as these are two organisations with such a proud history in Hartlepool.

“It’s particularly encouraging to work with charities that have such a clear focus on providing opportunities for young people with such dedication and commitment.”
