Law firm assembles its talented team

A NEW law firm has made its first major signing from a North East rival as it moves ahead with ambitious growth plans.

DealmakersFormer senior Eversheds lawyers Ian Gilthorpe and Alan Fletcher set up Square One Law last month and today unveiled new partner Robin Winskell.

Gilthorpe said: “Robin is exactly the type of partner we are hoping to attract to Square One Law. He has a very good reputation in the North East and is known for giving clients clear, commercial and cost effective advice.

“He has a strong client following and his clients include business leaders and sports personalities. He has acted for both claimants and defendants in many high-profile sports cases.”

Litigator Robin Winskell joins from BHP Law, which has offices across the region. He has a wide practise in contractual and commercial dispute resolution and specialises in disputes arising out of commercial contracts, employment relationships, trusts, negligence and fraud.

Winskell has also handled a number of leading sports law cases including last summer’s success for Dan Gosling, which enabled him to move from Everton FC to Newcastle United on a free transfer.

He said: “I was very interested to hear about the streamlined legal model that Ian and Alan have developed. It makes so much sense to be able to offer clients a cost-effective and more flexible option, delivered by lawyers with years of experience and sound commercial judgement.”

Fletcher said: “We’re delighted to have Robin as part of the team and are currently in talks with several other leading lawyers. Square One Law is attracting experienced lawyers from large commercial firms who no longer want to work in that environment.”
