Founding Partner, Alan Fletcher, named Chairman of Square One Law

Alan Fletcher, one of the founding partners of Square One Law, has become the Chairman of the Newcastle-based commercial law firm.

Having founded the practice with Ian Gilthorpe in 2011, Alan takes on the new role to support the continued development of the business’ strategy, which has helped it achieve a 30 percent turnover increase to £5million in the last year.

Alan’s wider business interests have developed in recent years, so he is stepping down as managing partner and the new position as chairman will enable Alan to spend more time on these businesses whilst still focusing on his client relationships in Square One Law.

In addition to creating the role of Chairman, Square One Law has expanded its management team with the appointments of experienced lawyer, Christine Fletcher as its Senior Operations and Risk Manager and Alice Andreasen as Senior Business Development Manager, who was previously a marketing professional at Northumbria University. Along with Director of Finance, Heather Moore, they will all work with senior partner, Ian Gilthorpe

Alan Fletcher said: “I am delighted by the fantastic support we have had from our clients right from the start and I’m really pleased to become the business’ Chairman at this exciting time in the firm’s growth. This new role will allow me to continue to work with my clients and contribute to the future strategy.

“Ian and I wanted to bring a new and entrepreneurial approach to the North East legal market that would improve the client experience.  However, we never expected to create such a strong brand in such a short space of time, which is testament to our experienced and highly ambitious team.”

Ian Gilthorpe, Senior Partner at Square One Law, said: “Alan and I have worked exceptionally well together for nearly twenty years. I employed him when I was managing partner at Muckle and then years later he persuaded me to join him at Eversheds and then five years ago we both could see there was an opportunity to challenge the status quo in the legal marketplace and the concept of Square One Law was born!
