Award winning litigation team attracts new talent

2016 was an outstanding year for Square One Law’s litigation team, which included winning Litigation Team of the Year at the Northern Law Awards, and that success has attracted new lawyers to the team, Rachael Cooper and Ross Gordon.

Gillian Tatt, Head of Litigation said: “I am delighted to welcome Rachael and Ross to our team. They both worked with me in-house at Northern Rock (Asset Management) so I know how talented they are.

“A key part of our differentiation at Square One Law is our ongoing ability to recruit and retain high calibre people who understand how to use their commercial and legal knowledge to provide exceptional levels of client service whilst working as part of a cohesive team.

“Last year was very successful for us and associate, Hayley Anderson, who has been part of the team for many years, worked with me on the successful defence of a multi-million pound claim in relation to alleged breach of trust in connection with the disposal of an international property investment; acting as part of the team with other professionals in the handling and disposal of an HMRC tax investigation for £22million; and representing a syndicate of high net worth investors in respect of multi-million pound professional negligence and financial services claims.

“Rachael arrived a few months ago, and has already established herself as a key member of the team and has had several notable successes for clients, including one reported case.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that both Hayley and Rachael are being promoted to senior associates, along with other colleagues across the firm, at the start of the new financial year.”

Ross Gordon said: “I was attracted to Square One Law because of Gillian’s reputation and the quality of the firm’s clients and the range and breadth of work that the team is involved in. Having worked for Gillian before I know I can learn a great deal from her and develop my career in this fast-moving firm.”

Ian Gilthorpe, Senior Partner said: “No client wants to enter into disputes or litigation if they can be avoided, but you need to know you have a good litigator in your corner if you do go down that path. With all the uncertainty around Brexit we also have the advantage of being the only firm in the North East to offer contentious competition law. Our clients speak very highly of Gillian and in my opinion, she is the best trial lawyer in the North East.”
