Corporate Social Responsibility is a vital element of any business and goes beyond simply good citizenship. It can involve incurring costs and commitments that do not necessarily provide an immediate financial benefit, but instead promote positive social and economic change.
At Square One Law we take Corporate Social Responsibility very seriously. As you would expect, when we started we set out to promote positive social and economic change in a different and more serious way. Of course we undertake traditional business activities like charitable donations and supporting good causes. Each year we try and identify one charity to be the primary focus of our charitable donations. This year we have focussed on Maggie’s Cancer Centre, based at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital, Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends. The centre relies entirely on donations to offer this exceptional service to everyone in the region. Our donation is used to contribute towards the daily running costs of the centre.
Square One Law is also a corporate sponsor of Seven Stories.
We also think as a law firm it is important that we contribute our time and expertise to support initiatives which will have a longer term benefit to the region.
For example, as the only law firm in the North East with genuine EU structural funding expertise, our partners devote a great deal of time to sitting on key boards for both the 2007-2013 ERDF Programme and the 2014-2020 ESIF Programme, both of which allocate £100 millions to economic regeneration in the North East.
By devoting time and expertise to strategic boards, sitting as non-executive directors, we are able to assist the economic renaissance of the North East.
Key initiatives we support through non-executive or trustee positions include:
- The Community Foundation
- Northern Business Forum
- Service Network
- Gatsby Foundation Good Career Benchmarks
- Asian Business Connexions
- South Northumberland Cricket Club
- Northern Stage
- The Experience Bank
- Programme Executive 2007-2013 ERDF Programme
- Local Management Committee 2007-2013 ERDF Programme
- North East LEP Area ESIF Sub Committee 2014-2020
- North East Local Enterprise Partnership Business Support Board
